Flying School History
Our flying school is situated on a privately-owned airfield at Peterborough Business Airport, near Peterborough. It was built as an airbase by the 809th US Army Engineers during World War II to house B-17 'Flying Fortress' bombers in its two T2 hangers. Originally known as RAF Glatton it was opened in 1943 and was the first permanent home to the 457th Bombardment Group whose sorties played a big part in helping to win the war.
RAF Glatton was renamed Peterborough Business Airfield and sits between the villages of Conington and Holme in Cambridgeshire, near Peterborough. It has a full Civil Aviation Authority License allowing flights for the public transport of passengers, and for flying instruction.
Our Chief Pilot
MFH's chief pilot, Mike Horrell, has over 30 years in the helicopter industry including 17,000 hours experience as a commercial pilot and 25 years experience in aerial photography. He is an instructor in all kinds of aviation, including agricultural, underlung load and spraying. Instructing can include low flying in some really beautiful terrain in the Peak District. If anyone can be called Master of the Skies, it's Mike Horrell.
